ABOUT THE ARTIST
From the early simple paper sculpture beginnings
to the intricate pieces Clive Stevens now produces
Born in the southeast of England in 1947, paper sculpture artist, Clive Stevens spent his early childhood drawing on any surface he could lay his hands on. many of his sketches became working drawings for his early paper sculptures. Moving to Canada after he left school, he studied Graphic Design and Illustration and studied for his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at The University of Western Ontario before embarking on a career that was to lead him from graphic design back into his beloved paper creations, but this time, by incorporating his intricate designs he achieved a style in paper sculpture that was to become his hallmark. Clive returned to his UK roots in 1985 and between then and 2000 he created his paper sculptures for some of the world's top advertising agencies. It was one of these who picked up on his style and commisioned him to create a 30 second paper sculpture animated TV commercial. This was the first time that fully modelled paper sculpture had been animated. The success of the TV commercial led to a second one that Clive created in Prague. Since 2000 Clive has concentrated his attention on fine art paper sculptures and today he sells his original sculptures and prints internationally, all of which he creates from his beautiful village studio in the countryside of Kent, just 30 miles from London and a half hour from the channel tunnel.
